Plain and Fancy Work is a collection of practical clothing and homewares inspired by the history of Australian women’s domestic art.
The collection celebrates the art of making, mending, patching and repurposing around the home.
Threadgate has used traditional fabrications and textile designs as the base. The collection features two textile designs, a simple one colour stripe and a more technical eight colour plaid made using four colours over layed during screen printing. The textile designs are used together with the complimentary plain linen colours.
Larger items were cut and sewn first, utilising cut offs to cut and sew smaller pieces to eliminate waste wherever possible. The Bush Rug Throw was the last item made using small rectangles and squares cut off from other items to form the large patch work throw.
